Alexandria City Council Considering Changing Date of Council Elections - Our Input NEEDED!
Good Morning
I hope you are enjoying the great weather.
Yesterday Lt. Govenor Bill Bolling announced that he will not be running for Governor in 2009, but will instead be running for re-election for Lt. Governor. Read his announcement here. Attorney General Bob McDonnell released a statement about Lt. Gov. Bolling's decision, which you can read here.
Come out and join us tomorrow for our Wednesday, March 26 for our Happy Hour. This month we are meeting at O'Connell's in Old Town starting at 7:00 p.m. (though I will probably be there around 6:30 pm). We will be upstairs on the second floor in the bar near the front of the restaurant. If you have not been to O'Connell's yet, it is a great bar with a lot happening. To get to the 2nd floor bars, go to the back of the first floor and you will see the stairs to the 2nd floor. once you go up the stairs you will see a bar in front of you, turn lef and go back towards King St. We will be meeting near this bar. SEE YOU THERE!!
Remember the Young Republican Federation of Virginia Convention is coming up. This will take place in Richmond on April 4-6. This is an amazing event with Republican leaders from all over the Commonwealth coming to speak, as well as a chance to meet and network with Young Professionals from all around the Great Commonwealth of Virginia. Read below to see who the speakers are and other information about this convention (or click here for the YRFV convention website).
As always, we are here to help YOU find opportunities to get involved in Republican politics. All of our schedules are busy with careers, social lives, and family. We want to make sure that when you have time there is an activity available for you. Just email me if you want to talk about anything.
Over the next several months we have a great opportunity to get involved and help in the fight to win Virginia for Senator McCain and all of our state-ide races. In order to do that WE NEED to get out and identfy our volunteers.
This is where YOU come in. We need your help in this endeavour. There will be a number of events throughout Alexandria to help out. Over the next few weeks you will be contacted by an AYR or one of the three district organizers (Kelly Skrabak in the east portion, Chris Kachouroff in the west portion, or Cristin Patti in the central portion).
These three organizers are working to help put together volunteers in each of the precincts who will then make sure that we identify and get out to vote all of the Republicans needed to help ensure a victory in Virgnia.
We need to start now, so when they call, VOLUNTEER. If we don't get out and help, who do we expect will get out to CHANGE our country?
If you want to get a jump on the competition to volunteer, email me at chair@alexYRs.org, there is a lot that can be done NOW!
Young Republican Federation of Virginia Convention April 4-6, 2008 in Richmond, VA
On April 4-6 Young Republicans from all around Virginia will be converging on Richmond for our Annual Convention. This is an opportunity to come out, find out what young professionals from around the Commonwealth have been up to over the last year and what they plan on doing this coming year to help out Republican candidates.
It is LOADS of FUN. You can check out the tentative agenda and activities at the convention website, www.yrfv.org/convention.html. There will also be more information in this newsletter as we receive it.
Registration is online at www.yrfv.org/convention.html. There is an Early Bird special until April 1, so register early. The YRFV has also worked with the Omni for a deal on room reservations. However, the lower cost for the room ($129 a night) ends by March 5. Learn more about this at the Convention Website.
Alexandria City Council Considering Changing Date of Council Elections - Our Input NEEDED!
At the last City Council meeting (March 11) the Council was set to adopt a resolution calling for an advisory referendum on a major proposal to move the Alexandria City elections from May to November.
As directed by the Alexandria Republican City Committee and with a lot of help from Mike Hobbs (a long time Committee member and former ARCC Chairman), Chris Marston (AYR member and current ARCC Chairman) sent a letter to the Mayor and the members of the City Council asking them to hold a public hearing before acting on the resolution. Counsilman Justin Wilson, the main proponent of this resolution, agreed to do that. With the support of Councilman Tim Lovain, the Council agreed to schedule a public hearing for Saturday, April 12, and a Council vote on Tuesday, April 22.
