Renowned Conservative Historian to Energize Alexandria YR's with"Winning Republican Philosophy"

Alexandria, VA – The Alexandria Young Republicans are pleased to
welcome Distinguished Fellow in Conservative Thought at the Kenneth
Simon Center for American Studies, Dr. Lee Edwards. The Heritage
foundation scholar and renowned historian of the conservative movement
will present his talk, "A Winning Republican Philosophy" at the AYR's
May 7 meeting at Murphy's Irish Pub in Old Town.

Chairman Brenda Hankins noted, "The 2006 elections left many
Republicans questioning where the Party is headed.
But before we can project the future of the Republican Party, it's
important that we understand its vibrant history and principled
foundation. We are thrilled that Dr. Lee Edwards is going to share
with the Alexandria Young Republicans his knowledge and insights and
remind us all what it truly means to be a conservative."

Dr. Lee Edwards is widely considered to be the preeminent historian of
the conservative movement. He has written extensively on American
Conservatism, including more than 15 books documenting the roles of
such prominent individuals and organizations as Ronald Reagan, Barry
Goldwater, and the Heritage Foundation. In addition to serving as a
Heritage Foundation expert in the subjects of presidential history and
conservative movement history, Dr. Edwards is an Adjunct Professor of
Politics at Catholic University and is the chairman of the Victims of
Communism Memorial Foundation.

Hankins added, "Dr. Edwards has an unrivaled understanding of the
basis of the Republican Party and its principles. We look forward to
hearing about its triumphs and pitfalls and learning how we can work
towards a brighter, stronger future for the good of the nation and the
good of the Party."

The Alexandria Young Republicans is comprised of politically active
young professional between the ages of 18 and 40, residing in or near the
City of Alexandria, Virginia. The club is committed to supporting GOP candidates, discussing and
engaging in the political process, and socializing with other
like-minded young adults. The Alexandria Young Republicans endeavor
to cultivate a group of enthusiastic individuals who come from all
walks of life, but still share the fundamental idea that the goals of
the Republican Party are right for Alexandria, Northern Virginia, and
the United States alike.
